Introduction and Background I have been a keen collector of paperweights for over 30 years. Twenty years ago I visited Venice and Murano for the first time. When I saw the huge range of Murano paperweights for sale there I realised immediately that we never see the good ones here in the UK to buy, and thought it a great shame. On each of my many subsequent visits I gave more thought about selling them in the UK. Then with the advent of the World-wide Web and Internet shopping, the perfect solution was there. I then made contact with some glass factories on Murano, followed by a personal visit to them - and the idea was launched. So I am delighted to be able to offer you the chance to purchase some unusual and attractive paperweights from Murano, carefully chosen by me in their factory showrooms. None of these paperweights are currently exported to the UK - a very high proportion goes to the USA. Most of the paperweights are colourful and exuberant - like the Italians themselves - too happy go lucky to produce the exquisite detail of the Scottish paperweights. Retirement Sale As the pension book approaches and being a grandmother demands more and more of my free time I have decided that as unfortunately I still need to keep up the day job, then something else has to go – and sadly it is my website. I have spent the past 10 years hopefully showing people that Murano paperweights are not just the fake Chinese copies – they can be really lovely pieces. I have hundreds of happy customers who can vouch for that! I am therefore selling off all my remaining stock - which you will of course be aware that I have been running down – at a 20 - 25% discount. This makes them a bargain to be snapped up. I have just been to Murano and was surprised to see that most of the weights I sell cost more in the shops over there than I am asking on my website. Murano Glass Murano has been the glass making island of Venice for centuries - since the fire risk of having glass furnaces in the narrow Venetian streets became obvious. They make wonderfully intricate and delicate glass - chandeliers, wine glasses, as well as bold modern glass sculptures.
